Arguably the most visited online application on Facebook,  Farmville received the 2009 Crunchie award for the best social application. Crunchies awards are awarded every year to recognize and celebrate the most compelling start-ups, internet and technology innovations of the year. Farmville is an online game where in the players get to buy, seed, plow and harvest their own farms. They gain experience slowly and get to expand their farms. The game has taken the entire Facebook by storm. Till date, the application had over 10 million facebook fans, and its growing. The game has been developed by Zynga.com, a social gaming company on web.  This particular game, brainchild of Mark Skaggs, outnumbers real farmers in the US by a ratio of 60:1 !!! And this is big business. Almost $1 billion will be spent on Farmville seeds or fuel over the year(estimate).

On an average, Farmville players purchase obout 500000 tractors, while the biggest manufacturer of tractors in US, John Deere, sells around 5000 a year. Another interesting fact about the game is that in Singapore, people break into their sleep to harvest their crops, students miss their classes and assignments and even the real farmers register to remind them why they took to farming.

Try it out yourself, but be aware, it is addicting after u gain an experience level of 10 . I am currently at level 41.
