With the start of a new decade, we brought to you the technologies which emerged in the past decade as leaders of future. But there were a few, which promised alot, but could not keep up with the expectations and faded away in the past decade. Lets look at those now.

Alta Vista

Search was all Alta Vista before the advent of Google, and the wave blew off the leader such that it is gasping for breath at the moment.

Audio Cassettes

Sound familiar? Might not to many, such has been the impact of CDs and DVDs that this earlier synonym for music has lost its ground to a much younger competitor. There are many lying in my home too, eating dust in a cabinet.

Digital Diaries

Haa, this one im really sad for. There was a time, i used to save my pocket money to be the proud owner of a digital diary. But fate had something else in store for this digital counterpart of personal diaries, that it got replaced by smartphones.

HD DVD

Toshiba’s attempt to replace normal DVDs and outshine Sony’s Blu-Ray disks was made to eat dust and was finally made to rest in peace.

IBM Thinkpad

After IBM decided to sell off its notebook business to Lennovo, this beast lost the IBM tag against its name.

Napster

A controversial, yet highly successful online music sharing application was killed by another technology that featured in our post, “The decade of Technology” : Torrents. Survival of the fittest has a great example here.

Netscape Navigator

Once considered the best browser of 1990s, Netscape could not make it into the new millennium when the browser war took a new turn with the advent of Chrome and Firefox.

Windows Vista

J This one is funny. When everyone was looking for an able replacement for Microsoft’s highly successful XP, MS cracks the joke of the decade by launching Vista. The OS was a surprise for evenyone, for all the wrong reasons. The installation space, high hardware requirements, the speed, and the annoying security pop ups, all led to the death of the already sick baby from Microsoft. The next child, Windows 7 looks promising till date.
