It’s a netbook, no it’s a tablet PC, nope it’s an ereader, well it’s all of it, and it’s an iPad!!! Well this was the conversation between Apple-o-philes before Steve Jobs launched his latest creation. Now that everyone’s curiosity has been satiated with the launch of the iPad, here is a lowdown on what it can do.

Apple’s iPad, in a nutshell

At first glance, the device basically resembles an oversized iPhone, complete with a home button and glass touch screen. However, It stays true to Apple’s design philosophy; simple and sleek, with a rigid glass display and an inch or so of bezel area around the display.

With the iPad, Apple has finally made an effort to combine all the modern advancements in current computing into one product. The new iPad brings all the computing benefits of the iPhone with similar portability. Although  it will not exactly fit in your pocket, but it is still petite enough to easily travel anywhere with you.

As for what you can do, Apple has added a slew of unique features to the iPad. In addition to running all the applications available for iPhone, it has a whole new “iBooks” store for browsing and building a book library.

Apple’s iWork suite has also been brought to the iPad, offering full integration with the iPad’s photo features, and a new set of interfaces to make working with multitouch more intuitive and appealing. It appears the current options for this device are only the beginning, and we will see what the thing is truly capable of when third-party developers start revealing their applications for it.

To lay your hands to an iPad, enthusiasts in India will have to wait till March this year. The pricing for the iPad starts from 499$ in US, and is rumoured to be in the range of 23000 to 25000 INR, when it makes its way to India, till then Happy Drooling!!!
